In the Powersearch Box, enter Shakespeare authorship

Books is the default format tab, so you may need to select other formats such as Academic Journals and Magazines to locate articles.

Be sure to check full text articles only

Ignore articles marked "review"

Once you have some information regarding other theories of authorship, search for biographical information to confirm or refute theories.

Try searching Shakespeare debate or Shakespeare authorship for additional articles.

Once you have information on some of the theories, you should then search on additional related terms.

For example, Edward De Vere, William Stanley, Shakespeare’s biography—education, travel etc.

Be sure to evaluate your selection before using:

1. Authority?

  • An individual? An organization? An educational institution?
  • What education or experience makes them an expert?

2. Objectivity?

  • What is the purpose of the site?
  • Basic information? Persuasion? Selling something?
  • What is the motive? Beware of bias (especially from .orgs)

3. Currency?

  • When was the site created? Last updated?
  • Is this current enough for my research?
  • Do the links work?

4. Content Quality?

  • Where does the information come from?
  • Does the author credit sources or give references?
    • References are different than links to “additional information”!
