Mr. Hartley

Mr. Hartley is a graduate of Newington High School. James Madison University, and Central Connecticut State University. He taught history at NHS before becoming a library media specialist in 2011.  Mr. Hartley enjoys many activities including watching football/baseball, television/movies, reading interesting history, and learning about real estate. He has three children, now in high school and college.  Among Mr. Hartley's favorite titles is The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson.

General Information

When can I use the NHS library?

You can electronically access NHS Library resources anytime.  (The username/password for use outside of NPS is posted around the library!)

The library is open Monday-Friday / 7:15  - 2:40.

How do I use the NHS library facility during the school day?
Stop in any time before or after school. During the school day you may use the library during Open Study:

  • Report directly to the library.  Please arrive on time.
  • Sign in at the circulation desk.  
  • Structured Study Students may use the Student Assistance Center - not the library - with a pass.

How long may I borrow materials?
Most books circulate for 2 weeks.

LITCRIT books circulate overnight only.

What if my books are late?
There are fines for overdue materials at NHS!  Unpaid fines and unreturned books will result in being put on the NHS Delinquency List

For 2-week books: LATE FEE: $0.05 per school day

For LITCRIT and overnight books: LATE FEE = $0.25 per school day.

How can I access the NHS databases and resources from home?
NHS students have access to dozens of databases and hundreds of eBooks. Remote access (from home) requires a username and password that can be found posted around the NHS Library.

An avid reader, one of her favorite books is Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. She also has a schnauzer mix named Casper.
